Description

Disclaimer: I am not hating the creators I'm questioning why these characters got so popular.

Akai, reicheru ketsuekineko oni, and nina the killer to name a few.

I know two of these people are now gone and nina is being fixed but still. I see these mary-sues every where. poorly written, falling into one or more of the tropes of a sue (everyone loves them, everyone fears them, super powerful, everyone pitys them) but people love them. they don't look at the writing of the character. for crying out loud Reicheru gave birth to God (mary sue as hell!) but she's popular because of that fanime I've seen a couple episodes and it was bad, no plot, characters out of character, and so much more.

Yet I go out and i see other great characters well written interesting and they have almost no love. Kar thorne, I might not be a big marvel fan but this character is well written. she has enemies, she has strength, she has weakness, personality, and personal issues making it a relatable character but compared to the popularity of these three it's nothing. I wish people who read and think about personalities than just their looks or whatever attracts them.

All characters mentioned belong to their creators

A character with no character is easier to "adopt" (in that the reader relates to them easier) than a defined character with set traits. The Silent Protagonist trope in video games stems from this fact- the player will formulate their own personality for the character and that "immerses" them more.

Since Mary-Sues have little to no character people give them their own and they get popular.
